One of the most wonderfully honest and intimate books I have ever read.

It left me with the most wonderful feeling of pride in the way Syd feels about his family and about the relationship that he and Belle have. I admire his life and his attitude towards it and I think it is very generous of him to have shared it with strangers by writing a book.

When they talked about the Makor society and using his book as an archival resource for the Jewish community I thought the idea was wonderful buti believe that it also has archival value to me and anyone else who reads it in its descriptions of Melbourne, the businesses in Bourke street and Flinders Lane, and his contributions to peoples lives and careers, and the suburbs during the last century.

Syd Benjamin wrote his autobiography as part of the Write Your Own Story project at Makor Jewish Community Library.
